Punjab Issues Urgent Heatwave Advisory for Public and Private Schools

Punjab’s School Education Department (SED) has released an urgent notice for all public and private schools as the heatwave intensifies throughout the province. The directive calls for immediate actions to safeguard students and staff from extreme temperatures. Schools are required to provide clean, cold drinking water in every classroom and encourage students to drink 8 to 10 glasses daily to maintain hydration.

Additionally, classes should be held in well-ventilated rooms, with the use of fans or air coolers to enhance airflow. It is recommended that students stay indoors during the warmest parts of the day and refrain from engaging in outside activities during these periods.
The advice also highlights the need of heatstroke prevention and awareness initiatives. Every school needs to provide first aid kits and train staff on how to handle heat-related emergencies.

These actions are meant to safeguard students’ safety and well-being during the present severe weather event. The agency has mandated that Punjab’s public and private institutions adhere to the regulations.
