Govt Ends 31,000 More Jobs

The civil government has abolished 30,968 public sector positions and plans to exclude an fresh 7,724 in the forthcoming phases.

The Cabinet Secretary informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that utmost of the abolished posts are in Grade 1, with 7,305 formerly removed and an fresh 4,253 set to be excluded.

Higher-grade positions have also been affected: two posts in Grades 21 and 22 have been abolished, along with 36 in Grade 20 and 99 in Grade 19. Additionally, another 71 Grade 19 positions are set to be cut later.

In Grade 18, 203 posts have been abolished, with an additional 36 slated for removal. Furthermore, 760 positions in Grade 17 have been eliminated, and 58 more are planned for the future.

The committee was informed that these reductions have already generated savings of Rs. 30 billion for the national exchequer, with additional savings expected as further cuts are implemented.

The government has decided to abolish the “son quota,” a policy that previously allowed a family member of an employee who died during service to be granted a government job.
