Five-Day School Holiday Announced for Baisakhi Festival

According to ARY News, the Nankana Sahib district government has announced a five-day school holiday in observance of Baisakhi. To make room for the large number of Sikh pilgrims from India taking part in the celebrations, all of the district’s educational institutions will be closed from April 12 to April 16. The school closures aim to enhance security and facilitate smoother event planning. The district-wide application of these holidays has been officially verified by notification, and plans are in motion for the main Baisakhi celebrations on April 14.
To maintain safety during the activities, around 2,000 police officers will be sent out, in accordance with the District Police Officer’s (DPO) extensive security strategy. Requests for further visas have been made to the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi since the number of Sikh pilgrims this year has outside of the 3,000-person annual cap imposed by the Pakistan-India religious tourism agreement. Given the importance of the festival and the anticipated large number of attendees, it is anticipated that the temporary school closures will aid in traffic management along with improve overall event planning.
