Donald Trump Threatens to Ban International Students from Harvard University

On Wednesday, the Trump administration said that unless Harvard University agrees with requests that would expose it to outside political scrutiny, it would not be allowed to accept international students.

Frustrated with Harvard, which has produced 162 Nobel laureates, President Donald Trump has attacked the university for avoiding federal oversight of its hiring practices, admissions procedures, and alleged political slants.

According to a Department of Homeland Security statement, Harvard will no longer be able to accept international students if it cannot verify that it is completely complying with federal reporting standards.

After dismissing his administration’s request for outside oversight, Trump referred to Harvard as a “joke” and said the university should lose its federal research money.

Furthermore, if Harvard does not abide by the criteria, the Trump administration has threatened to ban the university from admitting international students. Officials may be considering revoking the university’s tax-exempt status, according to media reports.

Trump said on Truth Social, “Harvard is a JOKE, teaches Hate and Stupidity, and should no longer receive Federal Funds.” He added that the university shouldn’t be regarded as one of the best universities in the world.

The administration is upset because, in contrast to other universities like Columbia University, which have cooperated with more limited requirements, Harvard has refused to accept government control over admissions standards, hiring practices, and political viewpoints. According to the administration, prominent colleges have an excessively left-leaning ideological slant.

In response to the government’s pressure, Harvard President Alan Garber vehemently argued that the university “will not compromise its independence or constitutional rights.”
