Heatwave: Early Summer Vacations Proposed in Punjab’s Schools and Colleges

As temperatures rise across Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave advisory to the School Education and Higher Education Departments, urging immediate measures to protect students and staff.

The advisory has also been shared with all commissioners and deputy commissioners, stressing the need for proactive preparation.

It recommends adjusting school and college hours to avoid peak heat times and suggests that summer vacations may need to start earlier if temperatures continue to soar.

Educational institutions are instructed to ensure a constant supply of clean, cool drinking water on campus and to encourage students to wear light, breathable clothing.

The advisory also highlights the health risks posed by high temperatures, especially for children in crowded and poorly ventilated classrooms.

This warning comes as the Met Office predicts above-average temperatures in the coming weeks, prompting the PDMA to call on school authorities to respond quickly and responsibly to reduce health risks during this extreme weather period.
