Instagram Launches Edits Video Editor – A Free CapCut Rival

Instagram officially launched Edits, a standalone video editing software that is currently available for free on iOS and Android. With a comprehensive set of editing features, performance insights, and content planning tools, Edits is made to appeal to content creators seeking more sophisticated tools than Instagram’s built-in alternatives.
Users can take creative notes, manage projects, and track the performance of their videos with the app. Edits’ more advanced editing features, such as AI-generated animations from still photos, green screen effects, and automatic subject cutouts, are what distinguish it from Instagram’s in-app editor.
The Response of Meta to CapCut
Instagram teased Edits around the same time as TikTok and CapCut were temporarily taken down from US app stores earlier this year, suggesting that the company views this new launch as a calculated attempt to compete.
Although there are some similarities, he said in comments on Threads that the app is more geared toward serious makers than regular users and will be different from CapCut in that it will provide a wider range of creative capabilities for a more specialized audience.
Additional Improvements Arriving
Future Edits updates are already being teased by Meta. These include collaborative editing that enables multiple people to work on the same project, improved AI functions, and keyframe-based animation tools. These changes indicate that Edits is a long-term commitment in Instagram’s creator ecosystem, even though they haven’t been implemented yet.
