Punjab Issues Major Update on Early Summer Vacations Amid Heatwave

The Punjab School Education Department has sought approval from the Chief Minister to initiate summer holidays on June 1, despite the possibility of an impending heatwave in the region.
Reports indicate that the department has already submitted a summary to the Chief Minister regarding this request. The anticipated temperatures might lead the summer break to begin earlier than anticipated, according to Education Secretary Khalid Nazir Watto. On this issue, however, the Chief Minister will have the last word.
The provincial administration had already reduced school hours earlier this month because of the increasing heat. Beginning on April 7, schools will operate with a 30-minute decrease in schedule until October 15. With closing times modified for both single and double shifts, schools now open at 7:30 AM.
Some parents are still worried about their children being exposed to intense heat, even with the scheduling modification, and they are pleading with the government to think about announcing summer vacation earlier.
Students have also emphasized the need of announcing the vacation schedule in advance, claiming that the lack of clarity is making it challenging to arrange academic activities and finish assignments on time.
