IT Education is Now Compulsory After Class 6

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave authorities instructions to come up with a plan to include information technology (IT) as a topic in all of the nation’s schools starting in Grade 6.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister underlined that bolstering the IT industry and increasing IT exports are key government goals while chairing.
In order to prepare our young people for the digital economy, PM Shehbaz said, “IT must be incorporated into the school curriculum.” He called for tight cooperation with provincial governments to provide uniform and excellent IT instruction and training in schools, colleges, and institutions.

He also directed the Ministry to initiate IT training programs in underdeveloped areas, particularly in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The prime minister emphasized how crucial it is to keep these programs at a high level so that trainees can compete for jobs both domestically and abroad.

Ministry representatives gave a thorough update on ongoing and upcoming initiatives during the meeting.

It was highlighted that during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the Ministry has already provided advanced IT training to 49,800 individuals and general IT training to more than 600,000 people.

The International Islamic University Islamabad, NUST, and COMSATS University Lahore are establishing skills and vocational training institutes in collaboration with Huawei.

Furthermore, the academic programs at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (Jamshoro), UET Taxila, and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (Topi) have incorporated Huawei’s specialized training in fields like cybersecurity, cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence.

Along with teaching 146,367 students, Huawei will work with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to update 1,300 laboratories nationwide.. Students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad would especially benefit from this program.
Senior government officials, Huawei CEO Ethan Sun, PM Youth Program Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema attended the meeting.
