iPhones Can Now Seamlessly Play Nintendo Switch Games

With the official release of AltStore Classic, users can now install robust emulators, such as those for the Nintendo Switch and Wii, straight onto their iPhones without requiring a Mac or PC.
This is one of the continuing developments brought forth by the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which compelled Apple to allow third-party app shops to access iOS.

Classic AltStore
Previously, sideloading emulators on an iPhone required a desktop connection. However, AltStore Classic eliminates that obstacle by providing a genuine on-device installation for JIT-based and non-notarized programs. Mobile console gaming is now more accessible than ever because to the ease with which iPhone users can download emulators like Dolphin (for the GameCube and Wii) and meloNX (for the Nintendo Switch).

In essence, AltStore Classic is an enhanced version of the AltStore PAL, which has been in use since 2019. In honor of the store’s first anniversary, the “Classic” edition features improved support for emulation and non-notarized apps using JIT (Just-In-Time) compilation.

Not a Mac? No Issue
One of the most significant changes is that AltStore Classic allows users to sideload software without requiring AltServer to be installed on a Mac or PC. At least in the EU, this modification makes it much easier to install unofficial emulators and other specialized tools straight onto iPhones.

The AltStore team has also released a companion tool called StikDebug, which simplifies on-device JIT compilation and provides developers and gamers who want to experiment with iOS emulation features even more flexibility.
Not for Every Gamer However,
Regretfully, due to regional regulatory changes, this emulator revolution is presently limited to users in the EU. However, consumers in other regions of the world may soon experience a comparable level of freedom if the pace continues.
